Beautiful hill station, tea estates, a small town wrapped in a jungle, Lion tailed macaque, Nilgiri Tahr, Hornbills, Malabar whistling thrush and tons of beautiful birds was all that the group knew about Valparai before this trip. For this group from Bangalore, this was a wonderful opportunity for having a first hand experience of Valparai.
After a overnight road journey from Bangalore, the group reached Valparai. The group was excited to see a lot of birds and some mammals on the way to the cottages. After a short break at the cottage, the group left to meet the Lion Tailed Macaques.
The first in the check list is Lion Tailed Macaques and the group spent a productive 3 hours with a massive group of LTMs. As always, the Pixellin guide made the group play a wait and watch game by settling at a good spot for photography. In the new few minutes, the LTMs were all around the group and provided unique photography opportunity. It was a memorable evening spent with the LTMs and the team returned back to the cottage with lots of great photographs and memories.
Many treks, some small and some long were made to see the Great Hornbills, Nilgiri Tahr, etc. The group also went on a small night trek to see some endemic frogs. Just after the monsoon and without rain for many days, finding frogs is not an easy task, but the group sighted Raorchestes ponmudi. Thanks to the Pixellin young tour guides – Jishnu and Dhanu, who relentlessly tried and succeeded in showing these endemic wonders to the group from Bangalore.
The group continued to have a great trip with everything in the checklist covered before the tour ended. Many good images were made by the participants during the tour. The group spent the evenings reviewing the images and talking about post processing.
